The Universe - The Milky Way

The Milky Way is hard to see from towns and cities.

In dark places on a clear night, it stands out in the sky.

The Milky Way is how we see the galaxy in which the Sun is one of around 100 billion stars.

If we could see the galaxy from outside it would look like other spiral galaxies like this one.

Our galaxy is around 100,000 light years in diameter, which means light would take 100,000 years to travel across the spirals.
