Climate Change is linked to emissions of Carbon Dioxide

New research has been published into how burning fossil fuels warms the Earth.

Exactly how much warmer will it become as human activities produce more carbon dioxide?

This graph produced by the research team shows that as extra carbon dioxide has been added to the air, temperatures rise.

Warming and carbon emissions are linked by processes in the oceans, which take up heat and carbon.

This link means that whatever warming we experience, it will stay around for many centuries after carbon emissions are stopped.

The Earth will experience around 1°C of warming for every million-million tonnes of carbon emitted.
